Titled “Markham Cantonese Kick-off” (萬錦廣東話掀嘢), the event cleverly blended language learning with social entertainment, drawing enthusiastic participation from Chinese youth studying and working across the Greater Toronto Area. Held at a modern leisure space—The Alley (20 Bur Oak Ave, Markham)—on Friday, June 5, from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the gathering prioritized accessibility and fun.

To help participants feel at ease, the organizers pulled out all the stops. The event was completely free, and a thoughtful incentive was offered: anyone who attempted to order in Cantonese received a special small gift. This edutainment approach instantly sparked excitement. At the venue, familiar dialects rose and fell—from initial greetings to animated discussions about daily life.
